51Give July 20, 2021

On the afternoon of July 11, 2021, 20 51Give volunteers arrived at the beach near Bijia Mountain Scenic Spot in Tianqiao Town, Jinzhou to carry out the ‘Protect the Ocean, Clean the Beach’ activity.

The volunteers divided the selected one-kilometer-long coastline into 5 parts and divided the personnel into 5 groups. Each group picked up the marine garbage on the 200-meter-long reef of the coastline. The reef was very steep, the volunteers overcame the difficulties to clear out the garbage including fishing nets, beverage bottles, and plastic bags.

After more than two hours of hard work, the coastline became clean and tidy. The volunteers cleaned up a total of 100 kg marine garbage. They sorted, packed and transported it to the garbage station for classification and recycling.

Every volunteer who participated in today's activity received the Volunteer Service Certificate. Among the volunteers, 12 were college students majoring in environmental science. Their counselor, Zhao Hongbo, said that leading the students to participate in social public welfare activities to understand the importance of marine environmental protection is not only a kind of social practice, but also the enhancement and expression of college students' sense of social responsibility.
